Women Defend Democracy

May 1st and More!

Will you join us?

The LWV has announced a powerful new initiative – “Unite and Rise 8.5” – starting on May 1 as part of its Women Defend Democracy campaign.

The initiative will focus on engaging and mobilizing 8.5 million voters between now and November 2026 to protect and preserve our democratic institutions.

Local gatherings will take place in Davis and Woodland on Thursday, May 1, protesting many actions being taken by the current administration that threaten our democratic norms and institutions. LWVYC is not hosting these events, but we are supportive.

Davis: 5:00-6:30pm, Central Park (401 C Street near 4th)
Sign up through Mobilize at

Woodland: 5:00-7:00pm, Yolo County Court House, 1000 Main Street
(between 5th and 6th)
Sign up through Mobilize at

We encourage LWVYC members to show up, which includes bringing nonpartisan signs that are appropriate to the League, such as expressing your concerns about actions being taken against our democracy and constitutional authority. Please also feel free to wear League t-shirts or other League apparel you have.
