The League of Women Voters of Yolo County wishes to thank everyone at the Libraries, the Election Office and the Yolo County Office of Education for promoting, supporting and assisting the League in providing an outlet for high school students to express their voices while exploring the importance of civic participation.

The contest empowered high school students to take an active role in registering and voting. Among the distinguished guests at the award ceremony on Sunday, May 17th, Jesse Salinas, Registrar of Voters, spoke of his continued efforts through the YES program to engage students in all aspects of civic action and how the League has supported these efforts, particularly with activities like the Design Contest.

Shriya Sriram, in the 12th grade at Davis Senior High School, was present to receive her prize ($200), ribbon and recognition of her design. Unfortunately, Sergio Santiago, a 12th grader at Esparto High School, the First Place winner, and Third Place Winner Anna Steidlmayer, a 11th grader at Davis Senior High School, were not present to receive their checks, ribbons and recognition, which will be forwarded to them.

Closing the ceremony and using post-its, the audience was given an opportunity to recommend other designs which should be converted into the LWVYC stickers, posters and bumper stickers.

League of Women Voters of Yolo County, Yolo County Library Services and Woodland Public Library invite everyone in Yolo County to come and help us celebrate our inaugural 2026 Student Voter Empowerment Art Contest Design winners.

Join us to view the entries and honor our award-winning young artists from around the county. The winners will be announced and celebrated at the event. The award ceremony is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

This year, the Yolo County League, Office of Elections and Board of Education turned to local student artists to help us reach youth and new voters with messages of civic engagement and the importance of bringing your voting voice to the polls.

The hope was to allow high school students to express their voices while exploring the importance of civic participation.

Thirty-five entries were submitted and judged blind to select nonpartisan images that will be shared as posters, flyers, and bumper stickers at events throughout Yolo County to inspire youth voter registration and election participation between now and Election Day, November 3.

League Voter Services Director Judy Higgerson and League Art Contest Coordinator Judy Wohlfrom invite everyone to “Inspire youth voting and artistry.” Come celebrate with us!

Your attendance helps the League advocate for our community’s active participation in government.
